SITRA’s Green Reduction of Indigo Dye

Green Reduction of Indigo Dye (GRIN) is a breakthrough technology for greener reduction indigo dye during dyeing process developed by South India Textile Research Association (SITRA). It replaces the hydrose and alkali used in the conventional dyeing process with eco-friendly products to dye large volumes of fabric in a sustainable and resource conscious manner.

How does this work?

  • This new process sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and with significant contributions from K G Fabriks and SIPCOT eliminates hazardous wastewater completely by replacing the sodium dithionite or hydrose and caustic by using a green reducing agent and a green alkali.
  • The process is not only pollution free but but also improves process stability, especially for vat dyes in bulk production methods using both natural or synthetic indigo dyes.

The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) established in the year 1956 is one of the scientific research organizations. It is governed by an assembly of Administration consisting of members from the Industries of Government and Scientists.

Consisting of a number of textile mills, SITRA is one of the well equipped testing-electronics and calibration laboratories with pilot mills, library, sophisticated textile testing instruments and modern machines etc.
