Greenwear, a sustainable fashion company that uses renewable energy resources to create high-quality affordable textiles and garments was founded in 2018 by Abhishek Pathak who is a textile designer from the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Its mission is to create 5 thousand livelihoods for women in rural India through Solar Charkha and allied activities by 2025.

The company maintains sustainable practices across the entire value chain. It is also adding more mainstream brands into the portfolio such as WLS, Raymonds and Wondermom.

About the Work

The company promotes a decentralized textile value chain generating livelihoods of rural women through Solar Charkha. It purchases yarn from a network of women using solar charkas – domestic spinning wheels used primarily for spinning cotton into yarn. The yarn is then woven into fabric by Greenwear’s ecosystem of 400 weavers.

Greenwear operates in collaboration with Bhartiya Harit Khadi - The Solar Charkha Mission. They are one among the Top 10 in TATA Social Enterprise Challenge
