The EU imports almost 40% of all global textile and apparel imports (by value, 2017)

That’s massive. This region can pretty much make or break a country’s or region’s textile sector, and thus hold significant leverage over large apparel suppliers.

It is also quite fortunate that the EU has been in the forefront of sustainability for a longer period and more consistently than North America and a few other developed economies.

While the EU and its member countries have a number of policy initiatives and mandates for textile industry sustainability, what else could be needed so that the region that’s the largest importer of textiles and apparel is able to significantly move the needle on textile sustainability globally?
