Worldwide garment utilization (# of times a garment is worn before it is disposed) has decreased by 36% compared to 15 years ago (Euromonitor Apparel & Footwear Edition, 2016).

The above timeline seems to coincide with the timeline when fast fashion started becoming popular, and that should hardly be surprising.

Also, it is possible that outsourcing of apparel manufacturing to relatively poorer economies started bringing down the price of apparel.

And perhaps, with the birth of 2000 started also the age of perceived plenty.

Whatever the reason, we are today using a garment a third less than what we used to 20 years back.

Just as the origins of fast fashion were intricate and interwoven with multiple social and economic developments, is it possible that its demise too needs to be evolved in a gradual, well-thought out manner?
