Textile Magazine interviewed Gagan Pal, the Vice President of Tata Power Solar, on their services to the sustainability of the growing fashion industry.
The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power and one of the largest solar manufacturers in India offers both rooftop and ground mounted solutions for the Indian textile industry with a special focus on South Indian industries. The solar power could efficiently replace conventional power in various textile sections such as spinning, dyeing and fabric units. It offers custom solutions according to the needs of the textile mills such as EPC as well as the opex/revex model. In the case of the revex model, complete support is provided through its revex partners as well as financial partners.
The company has already installed MW scale and rooftop plants in various prominent mills in South India. With the Government of India offering accelerated depreciation for solar, adoption of solar energy by textile plants would enable significant reduction in operation costs at short payback periods.
Gagan Pal concludes that early adopters of solar power in the textile industry could be able to build a long term differentiation in their business and a winning proposition in the marketplace.
