Water Calculation Tool for the textile wet processing sector is jointly developed by DNV GL and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to help the textile industry manage water consumption more sustainably.
This self-assessment tool assists textile companies in evaluating the water footprint in manufacturing processes. The tool is developed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries to evaluate their water footprint in restricted stages of a product life cycle, specifically the so-called ‘cradle-to-gate’ assessment from agricultural production through processing and production up to the factory gate.
The SMEs can provide process specific data of water consumption and quality, based on the batch or continuous processing and information on used chemicals and amount and quality of discharged wastewater. The resulting report has given an overview of the water consumption in the mentioned factory and compares it with regional available indicators of best practice.
