Updated: Dec 2020
Ka-Lai launched Manava in 2016, a conscious accessory and homeware label. Her mission is to share artisanal Cambodian craft with the world, while improving the lives and income of the community. The community weaves label bags and functional homeware products from natural fibres.
Lai talks about how volunteering in Cambodia inspired her to start Manava along with Baraing Tho, a local creative young man who shared the same vision as her. She also explains about starting a sheltered workshop in Krobey Riel village for the female artisans who practise an innovative artisanal method of creating rattan accessories using natural dyes.
Along with her entrepreneurial and creative background, Lai also speaks about providing the community a platform and opportunity to improve their quality of life through their indigenous skills sets
