Climate Beneficial verification is awarded to farmers by non-profit Fibershed as a way of ensuring that the process of farming wool is contributing to a net positive impact on the climate. This is done by raising sheep in such a way that the farming process actually sequesters more carbon than it emits. The verification is helpful in Identifying wool sources that don't just minimize negative outcomes from farming, but are actually helping sequester excess carbon.
The grass-fed, fiber-producing animals have an integral value in farms that implement carbon farming practices. Moving that net negative footprint wool through a regional and renewable energy powered supply chain would produce a garment with a negative CO2 footprint. The practices can be measured and monitored for the enhancement of permanent soil carbon storage, and therefore material coming from these landscapes can be verified as Climate Beneficial.
