The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) — a global not-for-profit organisation — is the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world. Together with their partners they provide training on sustainable farming practices to more than 2.3 million cotton farmers in 23 countries. In the 2018-19 cotton season, licensed BCI Farmers produced more than 5.6 million metric tonnes of ‘Better Cotton’ – accounting for around 22% of global cotton production.
They are collectively addressing the negative impacts of mainstream cotton production by supporting the production and sourcing of Better Cotton – cotton grown in line with the Better Cotton Principles and Criteria.
BCI is a joint effort, encompassing organisations all the way from farms to fashion and textile brands, and civil society organisations, driving the cotton sector towards sustainability. BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.
