This study carried out by European Commission, aims at analysing the benefits of transparency and traceability in the garment value chain and emerging opportunities in the same to implement an environmentally and socially sustainable textile value chain. It also provides recommendations to enhance the EU Commission’s efforts on the same.
The study involved detailed secondary data collection to understand the existing scenario such as working conditions, sustainability practices followed, environmental impacts and gender equality conditions from reports of leading organizations such as EU and UN. A mapping of recent developments that have happened in the last decade globally to transform the textile industry towards sustainability was also carried out.
The report concludes by providing guidelines to build a robust transparency system, especially for EU as most of its consumption come from various countries across the world.
