The article discusses pilot scale energy efficiency measures implemented under the Indo German Environment Partnership Programme in collaboration with GIZ and respective stakeholders in Gujarat. Details on various potential energy efficiency approaches and success stories of 6 companies who implemented these pilot scale projects and results obtained have been provided.
The study involved baseline data collection to understand the current scenario, stakeholder perspectives through workshops and meetings, field visits to select textile industries in Ahmedabad and Surat to carry out environmental assessment, exploration of potential sustainable measures from EU Best Available Techniques Reference, discussions with technology experts, Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre and Gujarat Pollution Control Board and their implementation and monitoring.
Cumulative results showed that the total annual energy savings in the participated 6 industries were 349,303 kWh and monetary savings of over Rs. 4 crores per year.
