This article aims to increase the understanding of multi-stakeholder initiatives and their role towards building a sustainable supply chain management in the Swedish apparel industry.

Three multi stakeholder initiatives (MSI) are discussed here - Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Swedish Textile Water Initiative and Textile Exchange.

The study involved a qualitative research method where data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with nine Swedish apparel brands, who were part of any of these three MSIs as well as representatives from the respective MSIs.

Analysis of data collected showed that MSIs have a significant role to play in developing a sustainable supply chain management as they help overcome several challenges faced by the brands. The study also recommends more collaboration among multi stakeholder initiatives to arrive at better standards and policy interventions for a sustainable fashion ecosystem, however, more research is needed to validate this.
