This article briefly discusses the efforts taken by BMZ, Germany to build a national multi stakeholder initiative called Partnership for Sustainable Textiles and its contribution to the sustainability of German fashion supply chain.
The objective is to connect members from the fields of business, politics and the civil society for achieving social, environmental and economic improvements across the textile supply chain.
Started with only 30 members, the partnership has grown to over 150 organizations (as of mid 2017) within a span of two years. Each member is required to prepare a road map to achieve sustainability in a year and they collaborate with the stakeholder suppliers and workers to provide training on sustainable material sourcing and production technologies.
The article shows that multi stakeholder initiatives play a major role in connecting fashion stakeholders to develop a holistic approach towards textile sustainability.
