Higg Index is a set of tools created by Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) to enable brands to measure and improve social and environmental sustainability performance across the value chain. With its goals aligning with the vision of Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and its Due Diligence Guidance, SAC planned to collaborate with OECD to update its Higg Brand and Retail Module (Higg BRM) as per their recommendations.
This article discusses SAC’s response to the feedback received from OECD on the alignment assessment. It discusses the key areas of improvement such as more focus on evaluation and questions to assess the practices. It also covers in detail the recommendations by OECD to SAC to align the tool in accordance with the six steps provided in the Guidance and SAC’s response to the same.
The efforts by the multi-stakeholder initiatives to offer a holistic approach for the sustainability of the textile ecosystem shows a clear need for their role towards sustainability of the industry.
