Sustainability policies for the fashion industry - a comparison of Asian and European brands

This article discusses some of the similarities and differences observed in the sustainability approaches, policies, activities and collaborations of select Asian and European fashion brands.

The study involved a detailed literature review and data collection through secondary sources to understand the sustainability strategies adopted by three leading fast fashion brands from Europe and Asia in terms of certifications and partnerships. Details on the strategies in terms of partner organizations, collaborative models developed, sustainability priorities are also provided in detail.

Comparative analysis showed that while European brands followed a holistic approach to develop environmental sustainability related measures, Asian brands focus on social sustainability. The article sets a platform for more fast fashion brands to incorporate environmental and social related measures into their strategies.
