The case study discusses the sustainability benefits of energy efficient equipments and processes implemented in a yarn manufacturing textile mill in Tamil Nadu. Data on total energy savings and cost involved have also been provided.
The study involved detailed energy audits to understand the total energy consumption and identifying the major energy consumer among the processes. Further, problems associated with changing power factor and voltage fluctuations were identified. Based on the analysis, appropriate energy efficiency measures were implemented.
Results showed that the implemented measures resulted in significant monthly power savings of over 56,000 kWh and monetary savings of over Rs. 2.5 lakhs per month. The study concludes that implementing these techniques along with renewable energy techniques would result in significant energy savings in textile industries.
