Advanced oxidation process for textile effluent treatment - a review

This research paper explores the textile effluent treatment by advanced oxidation process. The new method claims to reduce 70-80% of COD when compared to a 30-45% reduction by biological treatment.  The photo-oxidation of the effluents is carried out using H2O2, a combination of H2, O2 and UV, and a combination of TiO2 and UV. The process generates low waste and uses hydroxyl radicals (OH-) as their main oxidative power. 

The study provides a comparison of primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment process of chemical effluents with the advanced oxidation processes.  The study concludes that advanced oxidation process results in low waste generation and the hydroxyl radicals are produced under chemical, electrical, mechanical or radiation energy and therefore advanced oxidation processes are classified under chemical, photochemical, catalytic, photocatalytic, mechanical and electrical processes.
